Miter Saw dust collection

I am very unhappy with the standard dust collection on my Dewalt and would like to do something about it. I am getting inundated with ads from Shop Nation for their "superior miter saw dust collection". Does anyone have any experience with this product and if so does it measure up to the claims?

Yes, I have been using it for about two years. It works better than anything I’ve tried.

I agree. I had one on my Bosch, and it did better than anything else I had tried/ come up with in my own. Don’t expect 100% collection, but I’d say I got a solid ~ 85%+.

I have the ShopNation dust collection attachment for my DeWalt miter saw. It is night and day difference, it actually collects the dust and it 100% worth the purchase because the upgrade is amazing. This truly is the best dust collection adapter product on the market for miter saw, I fully recommend. No, it doesn't get 100% of the dust from the saw but you will immediately see the difference and vastly reduced dust build up.

Wow I must admit I have never seen such ringing endorsements for a dust collection product for a MS. Now I have to go look at this product (and become inundated with ads for the next 2 years).
...pause for internet search....
I'm back - and I do recall this now (yes I am that age...) and unfortunately it is model specific, and my shop MS is an ancient model from Porter Cable (remember them?). I also have a Hitachi MS that might be covered in the Shop Nation repertoire, but I'd have to check (and swap my shop MS with my mobile one).

Thanks for bringing this up - there always room for improvement beyond the current 25% collection rate.

I have a Festool vacuum connected to my Dewalt miter saw. It works well. I also have a FastCap miter saw hood tucked away if anyone is interested.

I have the ShopNation on my Bosch Axial Glide CMS and have been using it for more than 2 years or so. I'm on my second one. The first one was destroied by a small wayward off cut. The second one I printed from the Shop Nation 3d print files.

Is it better than the stock one in some cases, worse than stock in others because you have to remove it.

It works great for 0 degree non sliding cuts in 3/4" to less than 2" x 6" stock or less. For stock thicker than ~2" and 6" or wider you'll have to remove it.

With stock less than 3/4" I think it's just slightly better that the Bosch stock dust shute.

The long and short of it is that the ShopNation dust shute is a comprimise just like the Bosch stock shute is a comprimise. The diference is that in the space where the stock Bosch preforms poorly the ShopNation performs well and where the Bosch performs well the ShopNation performs poorly.

Mine is the pre-Metabo C10FSHC 10" compound slider. The back of the blade shroud looks to be different on that 12" model.

I’ve also been frustrated with the stock dust collection on my DeWalt miter saw, so I’ve been looking into options too. I’ve seen the Shop Nation system advertised a lot, but haven’t tried it myself yet. Hoping someone who has hands-on experience can chime in.

Does anyone using the Shop Nation have experience with thick stock?

I bought something very similar to the Shop Nation for my Bosch (Benchtop Woodworks). I found it pretty effective for stock <= 1.5". Anything thicker and the little shroud collapses on the wood as I lower the blade, and ultimately gets cut. Since it's kind of a pain to remove, it has made cutting 4x4s a real chore.

I recently purchased a shop nation attachment for my Dewalt 12 inch slider. It does a pretty good job with dust collection , not perfect but a vast improvement over the original design. I would recommend it.

Today I got an email notice from Shop Nation that the Metabo/Hitachi 12" dust collection fitting is now available for pre-order. It was even offering a 25% discount for pre-orders. But when I clicked on the link in the email, I got a "something went wrong" message. I sent them a message.

EDIT: I got a response thanking me for bringing that to their attention. They promised to get back to me.

As a consequence of this thread I purchased and installed the ShopNation dust collection attachment for my DeWalt 718. While I had long ago given up on any meaningful solution to dust collection on my miter saw (other than purchasing a Kapex), I will have to admit the ShopNation device does remarkably well. Given the price, ease of installation and performance, I am extremely pleased with the purchase.
