Ok, this is a sad tale of being a dollar short and a day late.
Well, more like $60 short and 2 hours late.
I was driving to the grocery store when I noticed a crane in someones yard. How odd... Then I see a truck bed with lots of black walnut logs in the bed.
So, I do what I'm duty bound to do. I contacted the Hillsborough Woodturners Found Wood Network (aka, my Dad).
He came over and talked to the tree guy.
Well, long story short.....
The base of the tree was 4 foot diameter and about 20 foot long. Rumor was it was dead straight.
It was already sold to a sawmill who the he works with for...... $60.
Can you imagine the boards that are hiding in that log?????
He guessed it weighed 2000 pounds (if I recall right). A bit more than I could handle in my Jeep and my Disston D8 rip saw......
