Maybe some help identifying a block plane

This block plane has sat in my dads toolbox for years without use. He gave it to me a couple years ago where it has sat on a shelf. Before he had it my grandfather owned it.

Now that I'm trying to transition to more hand tool use I've brought it out but trying to figure out if its worth trying to get in working order.

I'm attaching some pictures. The bed behind the adjustment knob has C stamped on one side and 4 on the other. The cap has C 11 and C-323 stamped on the bottom.

It does have a stanley 60 1/2 iron in it, not sure if its a stanley plane or if the iron is a transplant.

There's a sheet metal stamping part that is missing. It is the thumb adjust for the front of the plane bed. That's not a deal killer and you can work around that and get on with using your 60-1/2. The cap iron usually had a paper sticker with the Stanley name. Obviously, that's fallen away over time.
Google Stanley 13-060
Lots of very clear photos of what it originally looked like.

Thats good to hear. Ive been searching and I guess searched too narrow and never saw that model. The color really gives it away, eh? Lol

The blade looks like its a little crooked so I'll have to see about getting that straight. I cleaned it up a bit when I first got it but I'm sure it needs a little rehab. But hopefully its solid and I can get some good use out of it.

I'll keep a lookout for a thumb lever but from a quick search looks to be around $20 for one. If I'm correct that it just moves the knob/plate some, I think I'll just work around it.

Check your local antique/thrift/junk shops......Vintage Stanley block planes are everywhere and usually very cheap. I buy complete examples all the time in the $5 range. I'll check my box-o-parts and see if I have a spare but almost certain that I recently pulled out the only extra one I had.

I've only started trying to use handtools recently but have always kept an eye out for planes and stuff. Never really come across any or if I do it seems the seller checks for the highest price one has sold for and lists that.

If you do Ill gladly compensate you for it, even though its not integral to the function I do like completeness :)

So I have a no 3, no 5, the 60 1/2, guess I'll start looking for a no 7 so I atleast have one for each function.

Any of these worth picking up? Prices right? I'm trying to look up info but figure if I have the experts here...

Hard to say. I'm not a fan of buying tools I can't put my hands on first. I'm afraid of mismatched parts, chips, breaks, cracks, etc that pictures rarely show.

That doesn't matter as much if the price is right but I'd only be comfortable at parts-plane prices if I can't touch it.

Just my 2 cents worth. I've paid more for worse and less for better. And I heartily agree with Chris C.

You probably don't want to hear it, but. . .

1. Check estate sales.
2. Wait for our in-person picnic (hopefully spring if Covid agrees).
3. Attend the MWTCA at Ed Hobbs farm Sep 2021 (if Covid agrees).
4. Check out the store above Roy's school in Pittsboro (after Covid lets them open back up).

Good luck. Oh yeah! Welcome to the slippery slope of tool collection along with the rest of us.

I can get my hands on all of those, they are local to me. Just not experienced enough to know what to look for or if prices are fair.

I go to some estate sales, thats where I picked up my craftsman 6 1/4 jointer for $50. Been slow going with the virus.

For everything else, hope things can open back up!

Adjusting the mouth of that little block plane is a worthwhile feature.
get a hold of the missing piece, you'll appreciate it.

Wow! So do I!

Its in better shape than my 60 1/2. I'll be glad to take it off your hands if Cody doesn't want it.

Unfortunately not for sale... that's what I paid for it. Check the junk stores and flea markets in your area. That's where I find most of my bargains.
