Hey ya'll.
I got 2 good sized Persimmon logs from Steve Hooper a few weeks ago and wanted to saw them down to some boards I could work into the doors of a tool cabinet I planning.
I set this jig up over the weekend and tried it out last night. It's a sled of 3/4" plywood with a runner screwed to the bottom and a fixed fence on the infeed end where I lag bolted the log. I wedged a section of 2X4 on the outfeed end and the log didn't budge during the sawing. The persimmon is tough to saw with the elcheapo HF bandsaw blade but I didn't want to take chances with foreign objects in the log. My Timberwolf blade is ready to do the fine rewawing work next.
BTW...this log had earthworms living under the bark...very interesting looking with the spalting and worm holes.

Looks like the sled worked well for you Mark.:icon_thum I really like the spalting in the log. Are you going to resaw it and book match the lumber to make up your panels?

Looks like the extra effort paid off

That is definitely a large sled and probably a good idea not to use your best blade. It's been my experience, that BS blades wear out very fast when resawing :-?

Nice job Mark. Like Roger said, the extra effort paid off - when nothing bad happens with experimental stuff you know you've done well:icon_thum .

Mark,
Glad you sled worked so well. I don't know what blades you are using to resaw, but if you use one at least 1/2" it will work much better.
