Several years ago my brothers and I milled some Oak and Black Walnut on my Dad's property in Northern Virginia. Most of it has been stickered, but I had a piece that I cut off the side of one of the hollow logs that we couldn't mill. It was a rotted section where a branch once grew and was a really cool looking piece. My Step-Mom loved the piece I cut and mentioned it looked like a heart and would make a great fruit bowl if it was cleaned up and finished. This is the final result. They LOVED it and were extremely flattered that I would work on it and part with it. I think it turned out pretty well. Let me know what you think. Carved the center Black Walnut and left the carve marks, sanded the flat surface down to 800 grit and finished with Natural Danish Oil finish.

Some times the raw unfinished looks just right and I think you captured it this time, Mike! Great save and great job.

That looks GREAT Mike!
The vision to see something more than something to cut off the "Good" lumber should be commended!
