Looking for white oak

Hi all,

I want to turn a whiskey glass out of white oak. Since I expect it to take several tries to get it right, I'm looking for a "pillar" of oak that is 4x4x24 (actual, not nominal). Does anyone know where I could find this, I don't want to glue up boards.

Check with GPS Hardwoods in Kernersville, he may have some 8/4 shorts that may work for you. Also check with Hardwood Store of NC in Gibsonville.

8/4 doesn't work, but I might have to talk to him, and see if he has a source.

If GPS doesn't work out, call Wall Lumber. They may have cutoffs from their larger milling orders that will work. They offer these cutoffs as available, and are not listed on their web site.

Would you like a log? Tree felled after Helene. Been covered with plastic behind my s'hanger (read that shaded) since. It will be a bit bigger that 4X4. I can bring a piece or two to the picnic. I would expect it to be spalted.

I would like that. I'd be very happy to have a piece (or pieces) that I can cut down. I won't have my truck, but I can fit a short log or two. We'll find each other Saturday.

What I have is not top quality. It has a lot of checking as is to be expected with white oak. I'll bring 3-4 pieces that are welcome to. If you don't like them, put them on the burn pile.

If you have extra and can arrange transportation I would like a piece or two. I got some a couple years ago from another member and turned some cups but the wood was small and was split internally. So, the project was a failure and I would like to try again.
