Does anyone know a good source for rough pine in the Triangle area? I've caught the hand tool bug and I am planning on doing the 3 "apprentice" projects from The Joiner and Cabinet Maker. I've tried Capitol City Lumber so far and they only had Sugar Pine at about $7/bf. Ideally I'd like to find local Easter White Pine.

Thank you,

Joe

+1 for Jack (saw4you). dunno about white pine but i have bought lumber from him in the past (walnut, cherry, maple, etc) and he's a stand up guy. my other suggestion would be the hardwood store of nc, though i don't know if the stock would be local.

If you look to your right at the Ad bar you will find Anchor Hardwood there in Raleigh and Hardwood Store of NC in Gibsonville.
Give them a call and see if they have or can get it for you:icon_thum

Interesting question. The Eastern White Pine is scarce in the central Piedmont area of NC because the climate and terrain is generally not suited for it. However, it is found in the western Piedmont and mountains because of the more favorable climate. It's much more abundant in the northern and northeastern portions of the US. What a wonderful fragrance it has and it is really full of sap to the point that small branches literally ooze it out when cut.

So I'm guessing that you'll have trouble readily finding it from a local sawyer, but it won't hurt to make a few calls. You're probably looking for EWP that's pretty clear (Select) and not "knotty" white pine. Correct? How many bf are you looking for?

Here's a place in Boone without a price list. They have 1" x 12" shiplap siding that your could trim on the table saw. They also have some hefty S4S timbers listed in the "products" section.
