At least drum-maker boy. I just finished the 3 Tongue drums for my Aunt commissioned. I will ship them out to her tomorrow, just in time to give as Christmas presents to her kids and husband.
They are constructed of Padauk for the tops, handles and feet. And two of them have QSWO for the bodies, with the third being made of QS Beech. Finish is gloss lacquer (which is very hard to photograph with out a glare:BangHead:) Plan came out last year in Wood Magazine).
These will make 5 that I've made so far, they sound great, and are absolutely addicting to play.

Thanks for looking:icon_thum

If I am not mistaken, I think they are superballs kids play bouncy balls.

Dave, Nicely Done!!!

Do you know how hard it is to find normal rubber balls :BangHead::BangHead::BangHead: My wife had to go to several stores before she could find rubber balls to purchase. They actually have a marbeling pattern like a bowling ball. They look pretty cool in person.

Dave,

Those look great!

Would you mind sharing what issue from Wood Mag? My son would absolutely love one of those. I also get Wood (recend additon...) Is it by chance available on line?

Thanks,

Mark

I am not sure of the exact issue. It was around the Fall(Aug. Sept. Oct) of last year. I scanned the pages of plan and "tongue" cut template if you would like a copy. I am not sure if it's on-line. I have the plan I've never looked ;-)
Shoot me your e-mail via PM if you want it.

Last year many of us took on this project and I think I have the article scanned in at home. Drop me a PM with your email address and I'll send it over tonight.

Dave,

The drums look beautiful. The question is... have you made one of these for your daughter? I was just thinking back to the time I threatened to give my brother-in-law's son a horn for Christmas. He thought it was a good idea and that he would send his son to my house to practice... 8-O

they look great Dave. You need to make a recording of what they sound like and play us a tune.

Ray I made my daughter one last year. The newness of it wore off in about 4 months. Now she just plays it occasionally :eusa_doh:

Gotojeremy made a sound file of him playing the one he made. He might still have it. I have recorded it, but can't figure out how to get it posted on the site.

Mike I'll see if I can attach something to an e-mail through the site, or you might have to send me your e-mail via PM. I used my Bosch jigsaw to cut the tops.

Mike I can't attach anything to an e-mail thru the site. PM me your e-mail addy and I send it over to you.

Great job DaveO. If they play half as good as they look I am sure she will be very happy. I checked Wood Magazine on-line and the plans were in the October 2006 addition.
