I have no experience with spiral texturing, but I do have a lot of experience with being cheap. :gar-Bi

I followed that link to see what it is you are talking about. It looks an awful lot like something from this page:
http://www.widgetsupply.com/page/WS/CTGY/dremel-steel-saw-blade
with a flat washer epoxied on either side, or possibly two blades perfectly aligned, which would give the stiffness all the way out to the points. That little $4.97 no name rip blade is what I would experiment with, but it definitely would be an experiment; low speed, full face shield, small diameter soft blank, etc. And there is a reasonable chance that the experiment would just convince me that I had to pay over $40 for a tiny little spiked wheel.

I see what you mean. Good idea. Like you, I have no experience with texturing. I have a hard enough time drilling a straight hole in my pen blanks.

Given you stated "for a Sorby or similar item", I’m not sure if you have the Sorby or intend to make something similar. If you are going to make one, maybe this place will give you some ideas. http://www.rushgears.com/
The Sorby has bearings in the cutter but you could possibly use a bushing if you are making the tool.

I measured the cutters on mine and they are about 1 ½ inch diameter and 1/8" thick.
If you do a search for "shop-built texturing tool" there are other ideas by others that have made them.
There may be a lot of automotive (starter, etc) or motorcycle gears that may work for a couple of dollars each. The thickness may be the problem.
