Over time I have acquired four lathe chucks (two from NCWW raffles) and storing them has been a nuisance. Here is my solution to hold four chucks and their wrenches plus a worm screw on my lathe cabinet:

To start with I had some 1-8 threaded rod from my first leg vise and a 1-8 tap. I cut four lengths of threaded rod on the tablesaw with a Diablo steel cutting blade from Homer’s using a lube stick.

To make the chucks easy to unscrew, I dadoed the blank and fitted 1/4” thick slippery plastic strips into the dadoes.

Tap drill for 1-8 thread is 7/8".

Didn't have a tap wrench to fit so I made a guide block from a scrap with a 1" hole and used a combination wrench.

After lubing with paraffin, I turned the tap unidirectionally and the chips fell out the bottom. The resulting holes look like this:

Next step was installing the short threaded rods projecting 1-1/4". Note the nicely polished cut straight from the saw.

Puddles of epoxy on the back keeps the rods from unscrewing.

After drilling holes to store the various operating gear and screwing to the lathe cabinet it is ready to go. As a precaution, I slanted the holder back a bit so that the chucks won't unscrew from vibration.

A recent knob job required two chucks and this chuck holder really worked well.

I need to add a hole for the knockout bar.

Just I stated to other recent post, I truly enjoy enjoy your pictures and narrative posts!
I only have 2 chucks, but I am going to copy your design, but leave a little room at least a 3rd chuck!!!

I’m mulling over a second holder for the right side of my lathe stand to store the Morse tapered bits. Need to learn how to make a taper reamer like the chairmakers use first.

For storage you don't have to match the taper for the length of the taper. Holes in 2 places that match about and ~2 inchs apart will work just fine. A 5/8" and 1/2" spaced about 2" apart shout work nicely. Or you could buy a metal working one.

In high school metal shop class a taper storage rack was one of the required projects.

I had thought of a stepped hole as you suggest and later ring magnets that arrive today. Should work.

Decided to go simple after finding a scrap of polybutylene tubing with a 3/4” ID. Started with a walnut board with a split end:

This holder is simply a row of 7/8” holes bushed with sections of polybutylene tubing and tilted back about 10 degrees.
