The way it is sitting flat on the table I would say it is probably missing the bottom block.

thought the same thing... but I am guessing there isn't an "eccentric rod" to lock it in place, so that is why I am curious of the "locking feature" (T-bolt?) for the banjo...

What size is the tool rest shaft and how long is the base?

Looks like 1 5/16" post and 12" length on the tool rest. The banjo attachment bolt is missing. The entire piece seems to be in great shape, other than a little rust here and there.

Thanks Jeff, I am out, because I don't have access under the bed of the lathe to tighten the banjo. Thank you for the pictures.

This belongs most likely to a wood bed lathe.

Yessir, maybe came from one of those Conover lathes with the hardwood rail bed supports.
