Safari Puzzle from Wood Magazine. I may have finished my first and last scroll saw project at the same time. I have a new respect for the patience not to mention hard work that you real scroll sawers expend. I think I'm more into the noiser tools.

This is for my three yr. old granddaughter and it may be a bit advanced but it's finished so it's her's.

Wow, very cool. I really like how you used the Ambrosia Maple for the lid of the box. It looks like Zebra stripes to me. Also I really like how you did the trees. What kind of wood did you use for the foliage???

Dave:)

Very nice work! Hard to imagine this was your first project.

LOML got me a scroll saw for Xmas in the mid 90's, but I've never had an interest for scrolling - but this project looks more interesting.

Never say never! I did use the scroll saw on this furniture restoration project.

I used the scroll saw to restore the corner braces.

If that was your first - I certainly hope it is not really your last - you did a super job!!!!!!!

TacyP - did you guys have fun? The first time scrolling can be a little (cough cough) frustrating. If you found it frustrating, scroll at least one more time so you see it gets easier. Beginner pictures give you a basis for comparison to see how you improve.

Terry, scroll saw work is a different like of wood working. Your first project was a tough one and you did a GREAT job. :thumbs_up Try a few simple projects before you give it up.

Jerry, nice work, even more impressive that it is your first. What wood is the green leaves, is that a natural color is there some other pigment on it?

It's green poplar, Dave. There is no paint on anything only Mineral Oil. the snowcaps are Plastic.

Thanks Steve and everyone for the kind comments. Steve, see the reply to Dave. Green poplar is the tree canopy and no pigments were used only mineral oil. I was concerned about toxic products but It turned anything approaching white a yellow tint so I used plastic for the snowcaps. Zebra is of a manmade pen blank wood but I liked the black and white (now yellow).

Jerry this is a great job :icon_thum:icon_thum You have a great talent - I pray that you don't give it up - Like the others said try something a little less advanced and I believe that you will like it - Scrolling could be something to share with your granddaughter as she gets older- I have a two year old grandson and twin granddaughters on the way and I can't wait until I can teach them how to Scroll - I have made some Manger scene puzzles like this and I know how hard they are but to see the joy on the faces of the reciever is worth all of the struggle - hang in there
