Stuart (Tarheel) and I are meeting today at 11:30 at the Golden Corral on highway 55 in Durham so I can deliever his load of sweetgum. Anyone is welcome to join us.

It was just you and I Scott and I enjoyed the fellowship. Thanks again for the sweetgumagain. . Another successful NC Pony Express ride. I've never turned any sweetgum so it will be interesting to work with it. I've got to be sure to seal the ends tomorrow....didn't have time to do that this afternoon.

hey Stuart. you might want to cut the pith out of one of those logs and rough turn it wet.:icon_thum Its way easy to turn wet wood!:gar-La; just dont get in the line of fire.... you might get a bath. then drop the piece in a paper bag with some dry shavings for a month or two. Its going to warp some so leave enough wood there to finish turning it later. sweet gum is fairly unstable but sometimes has pretty grain patterns. you can wax the piece but dont totaly seal it or it may never dry!:no: wet turning is a little messy but I think you'll like it.:gar-Bi
