Hey folks just want to give y'all an up date on the raffle as it stands now. The raffle closed as of early morning Sunday 1/4/09 with much greater than expected results. We sold 393 tickets @ $5 each for a gross total of $1,965, and after the Paypal transaction fees of 4.73%, NCWW netted a grand total of $1,872 for the site's operational fund. That is outstanding and I want to thank all that participated. While that is huge chunk of change in my book, it is still a small drop in the bucket compared to the $8,000 yearly site operational budget. So please don't forget about the quarterly donation drive http://www.ncwoodworker.net/index.php?page=donate

There has been a slight glitch in the original plans for the raffle drawing. Due to some database errors that took Papa Smurfs attention he has not been able to process and send out the numbered raffle tickets by tomorrow as planned. They will still be generated and you should receive them (sent to your provided e-mail address) in the next few days well before the re-scheduled drawing date of Thursday 1/8/09.

Right now Steve, Gary (NCTurner) our impartial organizer, and I will will be meeting for lunch at Roh "Chinese" Buffet at New Bern Ave and the 440 Belt-line at 12:30 on Thursday 1/8/09 for the drawing.

We would love for anyone in the area that could come out to join us. We will be having one of the staff at Roh draw the winning ticket with photographic proof, could be quite interesting :gar-Bi.
Once that ticket is drawn, Gary will post the winning number that evening so one of us can cheer and the rest can congratulate them.

Thanks for your attention,
Dave:)

Wow! Over 20% of the annual operating budget from a single raffle! I really think doing regular raffles deserves consideration.

That is fantastic! Does PayPal charge the fee if it is for a service such as this? For some reason, I was thinking that this sort of thing for a non-profit organization was exempt. I am probably misinformed, but it might be worth checking into?

That is great! and thank you for the update.

For some perspective, tho, if it wasn't for Kreg's excellent donation of an item many people would love to have, the income only would be about 1/6th the annual need. I think even a non-profit is only allowed two (3?) raffles a year in NC, so donations will still be needed unless another revenue source can be found.

Great point Mark, and yes it is only two raffles per fiscal period. So please help us keep running with your donations.

So Dave. NCWW will know who holds the winning number when it is drawn, right?

I'll be out of the area and without access to the site, so when one of my 391 tickets is drawn, just hang on to her for me please. OK?

Actually Reggie, the ticket will be picked. The number on it won't mean anything to anyone present. The number will be posted and who ever has that number will win the raffle. Tracy will give me a call to notify me that I've won

Thanks for the update Dave. It sounds like a great plan. (As long as no chihuahuas are picking the number!) :rotflm:
