Our discount program with Klingspor is not working as was intended. Getting your discount either on their website store or their telephone sales doesn't happen, at least not consistantly. In fact, even the in store discount is not working as it should all the time.
The reason for this is that discounts are supposed to be done automatically by their "point of sale" system when you are rung up in the store and this is true with a web order or telephone.
But we are not really in their system as a club, becuase we don't comply with their standards for getting club info. (This "what is a club" issue keeps popping up.)
So what and how do we comply. I was just one the phone with Coleman, the GM of the Woodworking Shop and we discussed in detail what would have to happen, both from their and our points of view.
They would need a "membership" list to include the following:
Name
Street Address
City
State
Zipode
Now before everyone starts jumping up down:new_ukliaLet me state a few points.
This would be an Opt-in program.
Now what about security.
Almost all of this info is in our Database and no one has yet broken in. Can I promise they never will, No, but I can look into encrypting it, but no promises there.
Transmission of the data will be by email, but will be encrypted.
Security of Klingspor's Database, I don't know, but my info is already there for quite a while and nothing bad has happened.
So what are the other issues. Well the biggest one, is that we will probably loose our discount:sad9cd:
On the other side of the coin is that we won't have to have a card and that we can get the discount at a store, the internet and Phone catalog sales.
Also, this provides us with more legitimate basis for saying we are a club.

We can colect that the same we did Full Name., there would be a hidden field that was optional for street address. You fill it and name in, and you opt-in to the program. You don't fill either of them in, you have effectively opted out of the discount.
If you have bought something from their store using the discount card, they already have the info. Anyone who is a member of a club that's gets a discount can tell you that Klingspor has does NOT sell their lists. In addition Coleman has given me the company's assurance that the list will not sold.
