Just wanted to intorduce myself and give my complements on the site. Lots of great information on here. I am still trying to sift through most of it. I am new to woodworking, but ready to start developing my skills. I live in the hoke, moore county area, and was wondering if anyone knew of any woodworking clubs or other places to get some basic instruction in my area. Or even someone who would let me check out there shop to get some ideas for my own....
Anyways, I look forward to being a member of the site and starting to learn the trade.

Welcome to the site, Vinnie -- being a newcomer doesn't matter -- we all started with nothing more than a piece of wood and something that spurred our desire to see it transformed -- do not hesitate to ask any question you want here -- as has been said by other members here, the only stupid question is the one you didn't ask... We like pictures, too -- you've already uploaded a custom Avatar (nice machine, dude), so don't be bashful.

As for clubs in the Aberdeen/Southern Pines/Pinehurst area, I don't know of any woodworking ones (but I doo know of loads of good golf clubs), but in Raleigh there is the Triangle Woodworkers Association. I'm President of a club in the Asheville/Hendersonville area. There is also a club in the Charlotte area.

Anyhow, welcome aboard -- we look forward to your posts.

Welcome to the best club on the 'net VIN...

One basic rule I try to keep in mind: After working with any type of saw, make sure you can still count to ten on your fingers and thumbs.

Welcome to the site Vinnie glad you found it. I still feel like I'm very much a rookie at this hobbie.

Why right here. Great group of folks on this forum allways willing to share some of their knowledge. You can also check your local Community College to see if they offer any programs several do and some dont. Here at Alamance Community College they offer 5 to 6 week classes for around $80 and you do build somthing, I'm guessing the others that do are in the same price range and time frame. I know it may be further than you want to drive with gas prices the way they are but dont rule out classes at the Greensboro Woodcraft store.

Vin, welcome to the sawdust pile. I know it is a bit far but there is a South Raleigh / Wake County shop crawl coming up. You might want to make the trip to see some member shops and meet the folks.
