I took shop in highschool in the early 80's and never did much about it until I moved into a house with an unfinished basement.
Finally, some space to work in! Things took off from there with small projects here and there; mostly shop improvements but then the occasional piece of furniture would emerge from time to time.
My father was a Navy chaplain who retired to build boats in his shop in VA. He's since retired from that and moved to NC since he's getting on in years.
I must have gotten the woodworking bug from him and now it seems I've infected my brothers with it as well. They now have projects they're working on.
Oh, my day job is teaching Taekwondo and running the business end of it.
