Anybody know where I can get my 6" Rigid Jointer blades sharpened -
I checked with Ace Hardware and they only do chainsaws etc.
Somewhere west of Raleigh in Apex area or close would be good. Anybody bought any replacements; how much do they cost?

You can take them to Woodcraft or Klingspor and they will send them off. Cost me about $45. I have bought a spare set for a 6" and it was about $70 IIRC. I like having two sets personally.

Or you could bring them to my house and we will try out the attachment I have for the Tormek to sharpen them.

The only two places I know of in Raleigh are Ashcroft Saws & Tools 876-3223 and Raleigh Saw 832-2248. I have not personally used either of them, but have heard that they do good work. I would be interested in knowing where new Rigid jointer knives can be obtained also. When I get around to needing mine sharpened, I would like to have an extra set so I am not without while waiting on the sharpening.

I thought HD must have them - is this not the case?

Mine got recked by a knot in some softwood so the damaged area is about an inch or more long, but luckely not very deep.

Well, logic would dictate the HD, who exclusively carries the Rigid brand would have the knives, but logic and the BORG don't often go hand in hand. I have not looked for them as I haven't a need for a replacement set..yet.

I think Ashcroft Saws offers TWA members a 10% discount on sharpening and 25% discount on new products. Raleigh Saw offers 10% discount on purchases to TWA.

Guinea pig. I have used it for wide hand plane blades and it is pretty simplistic but very accurate.

Well I think we should try it! we should set up a good time for both of us. PM me with time that's good for you. I leave work in Apex at about 5-5.30 or I could come up on a Sat morning. What say you?

I just sent 3 TS blades to http://dynamicsaw.com/ This is the first time I have used them and they should be back to me any day now.

Their website says $ 0.50/lineal inch for jointer/planer blades, so, for three 6 inch blades, 18 inches, 9 dollars. Bruce (Junquecol) recommended them to me.

I've been taking my jointer knives to Raleigh Saw for years. Have always been happy with their work.

Dynamic saw is the way to go. Get a spare set as most manufactures reccommend removing one knife at the time to keep from "stressing " head. Dynamic should have them. Woodworkers Supply should have a set to fit your machine. Call Charles M at Freud. Both Ashcroft's and Raleigh should have them too. Dynamic's price for sharpening is about half of price of a new set. If you really want to be a BIG SPENDER, send them to Forrest in NJ. Just a bigger price for same work.

Never heard that one before! I normally just take the blades out, send them away and refit them; just means i can't do anything in the mean time. Dynamic certainly seems the way to go at that price. Travis and I hope to give it the DIY touch soon so we shall see. Thanks everybody for all the input.

once when i sent my planer blade out (droped them off a a guys house who works for a cabinet shop, and then he sent them out with the shops, i have no idea who actualy sharpend them. there was a set up fee for changing over from saw blades to planer blades. it wasn't much but it did add to the cost of sharpening.

so i bought severa more sets to help offset the cost for the next time i drop blades off.

i recently broke a part on my ridgid lathe and called the ridgid # for parts. they told me i could order it my self on line from www.orderrtree.com i paid for regular shipping (not over night) and was amazed that the part was in my hands in 23 hrs, the address for order tree on the shippping lable was;

5920 Summit Ave
Browns summit, NC
27214
888-707-7775

i don't know *** browns summit is, or if you can actualy go there to get your part....but i sure was impress with the quick service

Well Travis and I ended up doing the blades on his new Tormek jig and very easy it was too. I then used his "Magnoset" (sp) to set them up and that was certainly easy! full marks to both jigs and a big thank you to Travis for the invite to his magnificent shop to try them out:eusa_clap

David,

Tell us about the "magnoset". You used the word 'easy'... when a fellow woodworker sharpened his jointer blades, he spent the next few days setting the machine up and aligning the blades.
