Yea, the hardwood store can only do ~38in on their drum sander but I wanted closer to 46in for the width. They ran a spare board through the drum sander at the same thickness as the rest of the glueup and I added it on.

Thanks for explaining that. So you glued up the initial 38" table top and they ran it through their drum sander for you?

They offer a glue-up service (for a fee) for wood that you buy from them. Basically you grab a cart and then hand-pick the boards you want and how you want them arranged. Then when you checkout, they label the boards, true them up for you, and then do the glue-up. In my case, I had them do a 38in wide panel and then process an extra board to the same thickness as the panel.

The trouble with "store bought" dowels is they aren't round. They are produced by running stock between two molding heads.
