I explained to him that although many of us share in his beliefs, this forum is designed for woodworking topics and politics and religion should not play into the discussions. Hope he understands!

this brings up an interesting point

I see many times where we post please pray for me or someone. No one ever seems to be offended by that, So why should a mans signature be any different?

I think that the phrase "pray for me" etc. is open to personal interpretation of beliefs and is probably ok in "general" terms. However the "devout christian" statement is prejudice in a particular religious belief. Did I really say that????:icon_scra

I have no problem with his statement that he is a "Devote Christian", that is no different that a Luthier or Eagle Scout. But I do have issues with his signature -
<LI class=profilefield_category>Signature The distinction between Christianity and all other systems of religion consists largely in this, that in these others, men are found seeking after God, while Christianity is God seeking after men.--Thomas ArnoldI don't think it is wrong but others might.

Thank you for clearing that up. I was struggling with the proper way to describe my feelings on this subject. I think personally that the signature is very open to feelings from the membership of inappropriate opinions related to a particular religious belief.:eek: Thanks Dave!

Both his biography and his sig must change, immediately. If he doesn't do them, we must. There is no room for this kind of thing. Both from the site policies and earlier precedent. Remember, we made jeff.. do it and woodbutcher. Now that we are a non-profit, there is no room for it.

Somebody please deal with this. I really don't have the time or patience right now

Just sent another one.

I'm with DaveO's first post on this. I can't see the problem with someone saying that THEY are a Christian, or a Jew, or Muslim, or Jain, or atheist. That is simply a description of what THEY are. The bio, as of a few minutes ago, was self-descriptive and does not ask anyone to change their way nor does it criticize anyone. I'm having a difficult time with the bio part. (Or did I read an already changed bio?)

I'll agree on the signature line. It can be seen as a slap in the face with a wet fish. I agree we should not imply one faith is better or more correct than any other.

Got a response from Justin, he is changing his signature line but has requested the bio stay as is. What do I tell him about the bio, there seems to be mixed feelings here about that part of it.

Explain to him that NCWW is a Non profit WW organization with a no politics and no religion policy?

First, let me ask this question. What real purpose does it serve to identify ones religion. Does really add anything? It might, but really little. But, it sets a precedent. First the Bio, then the signature, then the thread. So please try to see it as a preventive measure.

Your religon and your devotedness (is that a word) are your own personal business. NCWWI does not advocate or admonish any religon. We are a woodworking site and organization. It is possible to discuss woodworking without religon. Therefore, everyone is free to practice their religon as they see fit. Just keep your woodworking related posts here religon free. :icon_thum

Doug

My 2 cents.

Just sent him a message stating once again that the sig and bio must be changed. We'll see what happens, he has yet to change the signature line and he was on after he replied to me last night and said he would change it. From a pm I got last night I would be surprised if he stayed with us.
