Hello, everyone!
I’ve been a lurker since last September when I joined North Carolina Woodworker. At that time I decided that I’d wait until I could be in NC to introduce myself, since I currently live in Delaware. Now that the day is fast approaching, I just wanted to get on with it, so I’d have a chance before the picnic; which if moving plans go well, I’ll be attending!
LOML, our daughter and I are moving to Denver, NC in mid-May. :eusa_danc We’ve been living in Delaware and are moving nearer to family and friends now that my job does not require me to stay in Delaware.
I don’t have any memories of not being around woodworking. My father was a contractor and I was brought up in a woodworking shop. But I didn’t get WG disease until about 30 years ago when I went to build some shelves for my apartment. (Darn shelves have cost me a fortune since then! :gar-Bi)
My interests are any kind of wooden projects including small items up through large furniture. I also started the slide down the slippery slope many years ago with a woodturning class at the Conover Workshops and it has gotten slipperier each year since.
I’ve really enjoyed reading all the posts, seeing the humor and learning a lot about woodworking from a great bunch of people. It has made me really want to meet as many of you as possible – so what better way than to make it down for the picnic.
Finally, I just can’t avoid a semi-gloat (it can only be semi because I already know, “no picture, didn’t happen!”) and the rest of the gloat comes when I can get down to NC and get a picture of the piece to post. Seems that I talked LOML into going to a woodworking show in Baltimore a while back and while there she wandered off. (That must have been when I was drooling on one of the tools and she had run out of paper towels to clean up after me…) Suddenly, she appeared back beside me and dragged me across the aisles to show me what she wanted me to buy for her: an 8’ slab off of a curly maple!!!! She wanted it to become a piece of wall art!!! Needless to say, she got her way and now we have a piece for future wall art and there may even be enough left over to turn a nice sized bowl.
Looking forward to the picnic,
Jim
