Intro from Chapel Hill

Hello! I was so excited to find this old school forum on the web. I just started woodworking (if we can call it that yet) a few months ago - building large floating shelves and cabinets. I am already obsessed and have a long list of projects in mind - mostly built ins, some furniture, and other cool stuff to fill an "atomic ranch" home. I hope to connect with others willing to teach new folks, and especially those that are excited about getting more women into woodworking. I would love to do this full-time, but I currently run a non-profit, have two teenagers, and a rotating cast of rescue dogs. I really enjoy spending time on something with immediate gratification (vs. my day job!). I found Bull City Woodworking and excited about using some of the tools there that I don't want to invest in at home, but otherwise have used FB Marketplace to collect saws and other fun stuff.

Welcome Katharine, thanks for joining. I enjoy teaching and have taught several women, even when I was told not to. I have three girls and a boy, all grown and tried to get them interested in making things. They do to some extent but time seems to stand in the way. My wife has been making spoons for several years and is learning to do some other carving now. I keep meaning to go visit the Bull City shop but again that time thing. I hope you have a good time here and stick around a while.

Hi Katharine and welcome to NCWW! I also live in Chapel Hill. I'll send you a DM (if you're not sure where to find that, look in the upper right corner for the mail symbol). Maybe I can teach you a thing or two and help you out when needed!

Welcome Katharine,
We are glad you found us. NCWW is a GREAT place to talk about woodworking when we cannotactually be in the shop!
I tell eveyone you will get as much out of NCWW as you put in. There are no dumb questions since everyone has been there and if you have that quesiton, there may be someone else out there too nervous to ask, so in effect you are already helping a memeber. Good luck, please keep posting and bring us along on your journey.
