Tom would like to offer items for sale to our membership only:eusa_danc , but he has a few problems:BangHead: . Please comment on this. Thanks!

Ok, I'm going to let the staff see this and get their suggestions.

I think that if you can create the things that Tom mentioned - ( I like the invisible forum, probably with some kind of length of
> membership qualifier to prevent someone from just joining for that one
> thing. It might also help to let people know this is a special deal
> for them and if it gets out, I'd have to stop it.)

and really stress that this is a very special deal, that could go away if misused I think that the membership would respond well. I see no problem what so ever limiting priviledges to view his special forum to members who have been registered for a period of time, and possibily are even active posters.

I would also vote for the forum that is availiable to members that meet certain restrictions. (details to be worked out later). I think that if it was posted that anyone posting these things on other forums, than they'll disappear. I think everyone will tighten it up. I know I sure will.

He's been offering some fantastic deals, and I hope he keeps doing it... I'm just waiting for him to offer something I need! I think the best solution would be if you could make a special members-only buy/sell forum that is NOT VISIBLE to non-members (like the mod forum is not visible to non-mods). I think that would fix the problem of people joining just to see what's in that forum, since a non-member visitor would not even know the forum was there. You also couldn't link to Tom's posts to other fourms, since any attempt to do so would just get a standard "must register" error message. IMHO, trying to limit to length of time or post count would be arbitrary. But, if that's what it takes to keep the posts coming from TH, then let's do it!

I would agree on the invisible forum and I kind of like the concept of limiting visibility to active members. 1) It rewards those that are active 2) You tend to limit out people who havn't yet "assimilated" to the NCW way of doing things.

OR... you know I just thought of an even BETTER idea! Instead of posting to the forum, he could just do a "special request" that goes to the Admin/Mod work queue. Then we could post it for him after it's um... approved. Yea that's it. Approved.

Yeah, after it's.......approved. Actually I like the idea of the invisible forum open to members. Perhaps it would be good that they have to be a member for at least a week in case out-of-staters get signed up - that would give us time to weed them out. My $.02 worth.

I'm looking at the builtin "promotion" strategies that I could use. There doesn't seem to be one that meets my ideal, so I'm gonna look around for an easy mod. Get back to you all soon.

Steve -- I concur with the special forum, but think the criteria for viewing should be at least 30 days of membership and a minimum of 25 posts. That keeps the newcomer (or lurker) out of the mix. I may do an advanced member search and see how many people would qualify...

The newcomer yes, but lurkers, I still feel they are full members.:eusa_thin Thoughts

I think to participate fully and receive full benefits of that participation a member should be active in posting. This site is a community and each members voice is appreciated and part of what make this a community.
