Last night I attended a meeting of the local woodworking group, the "Woodies", that I joined a few months ago.

The meeting was hosted by a member who retired, along with his wife, from a career as a choral music teacher and now makes harpsichords. He learned from a master and has been making harpsichords for a little over 20 years now. He only makes a few each year.

You can find out more about Ernie and see more of his incredible stuff on his very professional Earnest Nicholas Miller web site. Here are a couple of pics I took of the harpsichord he just finished that was sitting in his very modest shop. This harpsichord is going to a broker in New England as do most of them. The broker will sell it for around $25,000!!!!!!

I'm not worthy:notworthy::notworthy::notworthy:

It never fails. Just about the time I think I know what I'm doing, a real craftsman comes along and humbles me. That's some piece of wood working.:eusa_clap

Can you imagine how long something like that would take? That is incredible.

That's truly remarkable!! I like how the "workshop" tab on Ernest's website illustrates the different stages of construction.
The wood that is used is stunning! :notworthy: :eek:ccasion1

I was at East Wake Hardwoods today and saw a couple of his music boxes which are miniatures of the full size ones. The paint schemes were great. I believe Roger said this guy's wife does the painting.

Did you notice the price for just the music boxes!!!

His wife does the flowery stuff and painted gold. He does the black lacquered outside. The red marbling is done with a special technique- a scrunched up plastic bag from Lowes and red Rustoleum enamel dabbed over the black lacquer!!!!! Simple stuff, great results.:eek::eek::eek::eek:

Many thanks to Alan in Little Washington for uploading pictures of one of my harpsichords - and for all the kind words from NC
Woodworkers members. I truly appreciate the kind words and, I assure you, it is I who is not worthy!

I confess to not being aware of the NC Woodworkers site and I have just spent a most enjoyable hour looking thru the site. I only stopped browsing long enough to register as a member and I'm looking forward to many more enjoyable hours as a member.

Many thanks again,

I'd be happy to. If there is interest out there as to the construction of a harpsichord I would gladly take some photos during the building of my next instrument.
