in need of riving knife

Okay guys, does anyone know who makes a good quality riving knife for the sears craftsman hybrid? I don't use the guard that came with it and have an overhead guard but I really have found a need for a little more control. (a painfull lesson but bruises only this time)

Steve, you have a couple of options. The only real riving knife available for the Craftsman hybrid (I assume you have the 22124) is the Bolt-On Riving Knife (BORK) -> http://shop.walnutacrewoodworking.comproduct.sc?categoryId=2&productId=8 This doesn't have a guard, so it's good you have an overhead guard to go with it.

The other option is to get a Shark splitter -> http://www.leestyron.com/sharkcrman.php This is not a real riving knife, since it doesn't move with the blade, but it gets good reviews. I don't have one myself.

If you can get a riving go with it over a splitter. I never realized the difference until I had a saw with a riving kinfe.

I really like the Shark Shorty splitter. It takes ~5 seconds to remove or install with the ratchet handle. It's short enough to not interfere when doing dadoes but tall enough to prevent pinching on the most ornery stock. The only time I really need to remove it is when I need to cut shallow dados and when I tilt to full 45deg. The ratchet handle bumps into the table insert.

There is not one listed for the Craftsman in the listing for the Shorty splitter but he has one with the full Shark Guard. Lee is very responsive to requests and that saw is very popular so shoot him an email and see if he can accomodate your saw. I would imagine others have. The best money I've spent for safety other than seatbelts and antilock brakes.
