Mike -- you're not serious I/we hope -- you're an important asset to this forum, have always made superb contributions to help other and have served admirably on the staff. If you are serious, what is the problem and can we help?

I am with Rob, is there anything we/I can do to persuade you to stay? I do not know what brought this on but I am sure we can fix what ever it was.

I'd say he's pretty serious. He has deleted almost all of his own posts & threads...

Monty and all. Will you all look at the pizza thread and see if feel the was any NC/South bashing going on? I don't see it.:eusa_thin

The thread contains several comments about how food from NY or Chicago is better than in NC. That does not offend me, but my skin's pretty thick (that's why I wouldn't make a good moderator). The only thing that got moderated (that I can see) were woodworker2000's remarks, which I agree were argumentative. I suppose I could see how that might appear to be a double standard, even though it's not. You can bash NC food, but you can't bash the people who bash NC food. I hope that was not the reason Mike did what he did... he seems so much more reasonable than that.

First, let me say I quit reading this thread after two or three posts. In my opinion there was very little said that was positive about NC foods -- the entire thread is thick with "Northern superiority" regarding pizza, steak and cheese sandwiches and even baking of breads and bagels. The only poster who made some attempt to defend NC pride had his two posts deleted as being argumentative. One poster (Jeff...) chided staff member (Jon Todd) for the initial closing, which I think is a bit over the edge. I don't know if this thread is what caused Mike to opt out of the site, but it is a bad thread and something we need to avoid. A new thread opened today on NC BBQ and I think it should be stopped before it offends, because it will at some point.

Just my .02 -- we will miss Mike -- he is a Winner in my book.

I'm not sure I see any real bashing in the thread either. Maybe I'm too thick skinned or too thick-headed. There are things I like about all parts of this country... I've traveled extensively. There's things about Singapore (fish paste wrapped in a banana leaf) and things about Sweden ( I better not tell you about the menu there) I like too.

Bottom line... I'm not sure anything went wrong with the exception of some folks being offended... and I can't say they were wrong either.

To those who were offended, I'm sorry they were. To the mods and admins... let's be careful of how much 'control' we exercise lest we invoke the Orwellian nightmare. Sometimes, things are just going to go wrong.

Does anyone have Mike's phone #? I think a phone call would at least allow us to determine what the reasoning was. I know I'll miss Mike!

Well, I'm a bit perplexed by this.

First, I hope Mike isn't serious about leaving NCWWer. His contributions to the forum are notable and our personal interactions and visits have been positive.

Second, WW2s first post was borderline, but the second one was clearly negative and personal including several quotes of individuals. Doug's response was diplomatic and reasonable, but referenced Chris specifically. I deleted that reference. I PM'd both members explaining what I had done and why. Doug replied to my PM: "No Problem". Chris did not respond. Mike posted in both the Moderator/Admin "Pizza" thread and the original "Pizza" thread. I didn't see those posts before Mike deleted them. I probably erred by citing Civil War in Moderator Forum. The problem was not North/South, rather arguments that became personal and specific. Otherwise, I'm comfortable with the actions I took.

Oops, I didn't reopen thread . . . apparently hit the submit button as you closed it :tinysmile_hmm_t:
