Im finishing up a table top out of some figured cherry and completly finished a small remote holder for my dvd/tv.

Though the quality of the stuff im doing is going up with the new equipment I have, I find that im not making as much stuff. Im tired of making boxes, and large surface things like tables take a long time, so what would be a good project for me that would take maybe a week?

Most of my stock now is 1/2" and thinner and id like to use that up before I get anymore. I have walnut, sassafras, soft maple, cherry and poplar to hack up.

You could make some paper trays like for a desk, spice rack, and lots of things. I suggest you do a search on plansnow and see what you can find there.

Just a thought. Why not pick up one of Norm's books and try one of his simple plans. That worked for me. I also picked up a book of plans from the local college and picked out several plans from there. It is a geat place to start and the knowledge you gain is unreal. When you get stuck as we all do you can come here and find expert advice that will keep you moving forward. Hope this helps.

Another idea, go through the downloads available here there are a lot of plans for small projects. 1/2" stock will limit what you can do. You could save that stock for when the inspiration calls you and get some new stock and make what ever you want. Do you need any furniture or storage. How about stuff for the shop. Try something hard and challenge yourself.

Why not cutting boards or bread boards-----glue up from strips of the various species you have.

Actually I just got a guestbook signi from this chick who asked if I could make a large book shelf. I said I could with the equipment I have. It should be easy as far as design I think, except for lining up the holes to rest the shelves on. I would probably do a tongue and grove joint for the sides. When she gets back to me with a pic or drawing and some dimensions Ill ask you guys what thickness of stock is best.

Holes to line up the shelves wont' be hard. Turn to a little router jig. I have one posted in my gallery. It's the one on the left.

Hey Andy,

I've got a small pile of 1/2" stock too. How bout a photo of that remote control holder?

I can think of a couple of kitchen / BBQ on the deck kinds of things to build with thinner stock. How about holders for napkins, knives / forks / spoons, a tray for condiments, serving trays?

Things for the desk top are another possibility. A stand for the computer monitor? A telephone prop might help if yours has a readout on top of it and you have to lean forward or stand to see the readout. How about an out box and an out box for the desk? (I don't really want any work coming in, so I only have out boxes.)

Good ideas ray. I will think about making a napkin holder next, something to keep me busy for a couple days. I spent all day today (after work) making a garden in the back yard. Only measuring 2ft x 4ft and about 6 inches deep it took me hours!

Ill upload some pics of the garden and my remote holder tonight.

Edit: that cherry table top i was working on took a little fall off the bench today. I dont think ill be using it for its original purpose. I might turn it into a short table for putting my magazines on when I take a crap. :eusa_danc
