As most of you already know I got a killer deal on the HF lathe. I am in the market for a chuck and would like to get all of the benefits available at the cheapest price of course. What do you have, what do you recommend, and do any of you have a good chuck for sale that will work on a 1" 8 tpi shaft? I can't see paying over 200.00 plus for the one way, I know that it is the top of the line but I have several other pieces of equipment that I need "want" to buy in the near future. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Barracuda II from amazon, I got one a couple months ago, I love it, best bang for the buck IMO.

+1 I would agree the the Barracuda II is probably the best bang for the buck. It isn't the heaviest duty chuck but with all the jaws it comes with you can't beat it, and it is heavier than you will ever need on the HF lathe.

I have it and a Oneway Talon. I paid more for the Oneway with only #2 jaws than I paid for the Barracuda with all four sets of jaws plus a set of jumbo jaws.

Tracy,
I told you the Penn State chucks were the way to go.Go to pennstate.com and check them out and then look at Amazon and ebay for the best price. On ebay there's a guy named dissorder who carries all the Barracuda chucks, his prices are pretty good.He also carries the Benjamins Best lathe tools. They are not to bad for the price. You also need to check out www.craftsupplies.com and www.packardwoodworks.com .Sign up to get catalogs, its a wish book for turning. They carry Asp 2030 and 2060 high speed steel turning tools and talk about holding an edge.My bowl gouge is 2060 and you saw how that cut.The 2030 tools would be the last tools you would need to buy.I'll call you about this weekend.

Yes you did tell me that and it looks like others are echoing your recommendations. I will await your call about the weekend.
