I need inspiration or a commision

I don't know what to make. I have made all the furniture in my house and don't have room for any more. I don't care to re-make a piece just to do it. I have no more room for boxes or other decorative items. All gifts in the near future have been taken care of. I have wood and I don't know what to do with it. I need someone to give me a reason to make something. I am very practical and need a purpose for what I make. I know this is the wrong group of folks to ask...but I need a commission. I need a purpose to make something.
This has been aggravating me for several weeks, I just can't get inspired to make something that isn't needed. Just needed to vent, now back to your regularly scheduled forum reading.

One suggestion comes to mind immediately. Its not a purpose or commission. It has to do with the sentence "I have wood and I don't know what to do with it." Care to make a guess? Just a friendly thought!

FWIW, Now would be a good time to start on your bench. That is if you were wanting to make one. How about tool cabinets, shop acessories. Now is the time to do those things that you never seem to have time to do when you are building stuff. Or how about making a little cart to hook to the back of that mean mochine so you can tow the youngun's around the yard.

Let me clarify, I don't need to give anything away, so back off vultures (skeeter):-D :lol: :lol: I have wood but not enough to make something like a bench...which would be a great and purposeful project, I just can't afford it. I have made most of my shop fixtures and cabinets as I need.
But making a cart for the back of my new mower is a great idea. Anyone ever made wooden wheels and axles????

As I recall, you just got a neat new riding lawn mower from the LOYL.:mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: Why not build a "Little House" for it.:eusa_danc With all of your landscaping talent; build up some wonderful raised flower beds and shrubs around it! Some window planter boxes and drive-in ramp, beer cooler, an oil change pit and sharpening station! It would be awesome!!!

It could become a work of art; just like some of the typical works you are used to showing here!

I cannot believe you have run out of ideas!!! Come on Now!!

Could it be you are in a slump in anticipation/fear/anxiety about your upcoming surgery?

If you want it and it will inspire you, I will give you the top to the bench where the legs are a POS (made by yours truly). Only catch to it is I intend to keep the front vise as I intend to use it on the next bench.

Otherwise, yes you have built a lot of furniture and stuff, but if you are like me, a lot of it has improved quality wise as your skills and expertise have improved. What could you really stand to make over and do better?

I know that you have a young daughter so are you saying that you have made everything she could possibly need in her bedroom? Bed, dresser, lingerie chest, night stand, bookcase?

Outdoor furniture? Say adirondack chairs, table, etc.

Maybe a nice outdoor table? wooden flower boxes?

What types of things could you stand to upgrade in your shop?

Just what has popped into my head. My .02.

I actually have a small "barn" that will be the home for the new mowing machine. I had to widen the door opening to fit the mowing deck. So I do have that construction project to finish. But I am looking for woodworking projects, not construction projects. Something I can build in my shop vs. out in the yard.
I haven't run out of ideas, there are a million things that I want to build. But I can't afford the materials to build them right now. The wife wants an addition to the house..for her shoes. My daughter could use a play-set, I could use a stand alone shop twice the size I have now. What I really need is someone to pay me to make them something.

I did that for a little while. I made more money on kitchen cabinets than I did anything else. They can be a PITA, but if I spent say $2K on materials I got $4K for the total job and they were happy with it. Made everything and ordered all the hardware, etc. I did a couple of counters (one corian one formica) but I really didn't know what I was doing.

I am putting very serious thought into starting up a website that will showcase the things that I have made, each with an appropriate cost value. And giving people a chance to order something similar to what I have made in the past but with their own custom touches. I don't want to make a bunch of stuff in hopes to sell it. I would rather wait around until someone needs that special piece or custom gift and then be given the inspiration to make something really special. I just don't know the first thing about building a website. I know that I can have the site hosted here, but that is all I have as a start.

I suck at it, but I know you can do a lot of it in MS word to start with and save as an HTML for what it's worth. My .02

Just do a save as and change file type to html instead of word doc. Put your pictures, your writing, formatting, etc right into it.
