I had to hoist something up to the shop today. So I opened the loft door, unhooked and swung out the I-beam, attached the braces, and lowered the cable. Used the dual cable setup cause this thing was a bit heavy. I used some heavy rope to attach the cable to this thing . . . . .

And yes, this is a gloat!!!!

This is getting way out of hand. If you keep up this pace, you're gonna out-gloat Woodguy soon! Congrats on the goodies.

Let's see..... :eusa_thin ... brand spankin' new 15" Delta planer... cool I-beam hoist setup... awesome two story shop... all that stuff is really nice. But managing to combine all that gloatage into an over-the-top triple-gloat trifecta.... well, that's just priceless!

Monty -- Alan's established a whole new strain of WG disease -- in his case, it's the "no-strain" hoist coupled with an unbelievable shop(complete with flushable fixtures) and pop-up duct and power connections, awesome power tools and a gorgeous home -- He's got mega-gloatage!

Congrats, Alan -- and yes, you SUCK!

Stop on by for a chat and I'll spin you a yarn how I got all this- the great used tool deals, the benefits of buying a house in need of TLC in Northern VA, putting a lot of sweat equity into improving it, then selling it 30 years later. Oh, and also spending 20+ years in the Navy, always moving, always going to sea, and hurling my body at a postage stamp landing area at night, in the rain, in the middle of the ocean, in a jet made by the lowest bidder.:lol::lol:

I'd love to stop by for a chat sometime, but we are a wee bit-of-a-distance apart -- MS Streets and Maps puts us 370 miles apart. Nonetheless, the next time I head to the NC shore, I may look you up -- BTW -- I was with EPA for 31 years before retirement in Jan 2003; leveraged $5K cash down on our 1st house into about $135K through our 4th house (including one in Springfield, VA) which went into this house -- I took a back vacation payout to buy my key retirement shop tools in 2004 and have bought a few used ones along the line (e.g., a Rockwell Shaper for $100 with 2 HP motor and about 18 HSS bits). As a marine scientist, I went to sea too, usually in small, rocking boats, Coast Guard cutters or 2-man subs -- but never landed on a carrier!

Drop by any time. You probably wouldn't believe what your old Springfield house is worth now! I lived over near the river in the Fort Hunt area, south of Old Town Alexandria

OK, let's not let this get outta hand:-D:-D:-D Got the new planer (but just a factory refurb)- yes; have a hoist and used it- yes. Need the hoist to get stuff up there; two story shop, NO (I wish:-D). Just space (good space though:-D) above the garage- planned it to be a shop though before they started building.

LOL!!! Yea! Everytime I go over there to mooch off of his industrial sized equipment, he always has ANOTHER humongous power tool that needs to be moved.... :-x Luckily, though, I seem to recall something about him being "done with tools", so I don't have to worry about that any longer!!! :eusa_danc

Yeah, but Monty never had to help move an entire carrier like the USS Crescent!

YOU SUCK Alan, bad, really, really, bad.:)

So, what is next on the list?
Which list?

Hmmmmmm, let's see:

Tool purchases- I think I would like an osc. spindle sander, but not sure I really need it- after that, believe it or not- nothing :-D,

Shop projects- I have a long list- finish the shop which includes building a back bench (for hand and small power tools, misc storage, miter saw, mortiser, grinder, Tormek, etc.), build a traditional WW bench like Insomniacs, finish the trim and doors in the shop.

Tool upgrade projects (to build myself or install things I already have)- tachometer and new stand for the lathe, VFD and tach for the drill press, new mobile base on the bandsaw, swap the 3 phase shaper motor for a single phase. Build mini-cyclone for Shopvac. Plub shopvac into back bench, add two floor sweeps to DC system, add high chip warning circuit to DC system chip bag, Shelix cutter for the jointer (hmmm, that's really a purchase, isn't it?)

For the house- (reallytoo numerous to list individually) but briefly- master closet organizer, redo TV cabinet/fireplace mantle, 3 bedroom suites (Shaker, Arts & Crafts, ?), new addition (craft/computer room).

Well that should keep me busy for a few years!!

Hmmmm....

Lot of similarities.

I have an OSS and I can say I don't regret it. To me, it is a far cry better than the drill press drum sanders. I got a Delta BOSS and set up my shop vac to come on automatically for it.

I too want to build a new bench (Insom is not helping this).

Would love to get a shaper, just haven't been able to justify it to myself yet.
