:) I found some nice pallets and tore them apart and was ripping the thick parts of the pallet in to 1 1/4" stips for a table top and with one board left my Hitachi table saw started to hesitate 8-O and then the magic jeni escaped in a puff of smoke:crybaby2:. I looked at the dust pile and pieces of black plastic, the motor was toast. Well I moved on and started to use the planer to get the peices down to size and some how the only peice with a nail (marked with a sharpie on all four sides) found it's way in to the good pile, as I was sending it through the planer I saw the marks and quickly hit the power switch and watched as the nail went ever so slowly out of sight 8-O . Once it stopped I raised the head and looked at the nail followed by a ridge. I threw the peice across the room and turned off the raido and lights called it a day and had a cold one.

Rob looking for a table saw.

Yikes. Good thing you made it out of the shop in one piece! Better luck next time... on the bright side, you now have a good excuse to go buy a new table saw!

One good thing about the other day is that LOWES took the saw back and gave me full refund.

As you've found out the hard way, "saving" money by trying to recycle pallets isn't always a good idea -- be honest, there was nothing "nice" in those pallets! I've done it too, and nicked a planer blade with embedded grit, not a nail. Sorry to hear you woes, but as Insomniac suggests, you've got an excuse for a new tablesaw. And, store-bought wood.

That sucks, and not in a good way. But it sounds like you turned out alright with the saw, and you may be able to shift the planner blades so the bad areas don't intersect. You still have all your fingers (which was my first thought when I read your thread title) and a bad day in the shop is better than a good day at work :-D Jump back on that horse and give it a good kick :icon_thum

Oh Rob.. That's a definatel double whammy. I am sorry to hear that. If it makes you feel any better, I ran a staple through my planer, the very first time I used it.. ever.. Ok, well, maybe it didn't make you feel any better, but at least you're not alone.

I keep on golfing, even if I shoot a 138 one day, I know I will get back into the low 80's. Bad days come and go, good days are the ones you come back for.

If it is 9, I go home and don't tell anybody I didn't finish 18!

Have a day like that? and have money SWMBO won't let you spend on more woodworking tools? spend your money here, to replace that club that just wouldn't do anything right for you.

Thanks for all the replies, but you are all right I will not be looking for pallets anymore. Just to expensive in the long run.

Just an "fyi"....watch using pallets. Those coming in from overseas are fumigated really heavy along with all of the "American" made {stuff} that they are shipping in here.
I'm not trying to tell anyone what to do, but if you are unsure of the origin of the pallet or skid, I would not use it, for the health concerns.
