Hello all,
Just getting started in wood working, but have enjoyed carpentry on and off all my life. I am retired and in a new career teaching for the local Community College part time. I have made a few things for my home like a set of bunk beds for the grandchildren that really show my carpentry skills because I made them out of framing lumber, not pretty but strong.
I made some end tables from a tree I cut down in the front yard. A pantry for my wife that started out to be a Hoosier but I didn't have a plan so it morphed into a pantry. I got a few other things I made like a cherry changing table for my daughters first born baby. But as the title says I'm a fetus and not a old pro like some of ya'll here. I hope to pick up a few tips and learn as much as possible, so good to be here!

Is it your design or from a plan. It looks very functional, and quite stylish too. Got to love the Cherry, what did you finish it with??

no plan, Made it from a picture my daughter emailed me, I had my doubt's about making it but decided to give it a shot. I finished it with Old Masters Stain Controller, Old Masters Cherry Stain No.40304 and followed it up with 5 coats of Wood Pride Satin Oil Based Poly

Well if you made that from a picture, you've grown up from a fetus to at least a teenager. Very nice piece, I like the Shaker influence.

Welcome Mark!!!:eusa_danc:eusa_danc:eusa_danc

If you made that changing table out of framing lumber, I sure do need to see your finishing recipe!!:gar-La;

I can see from your picture of the changing table that you have a lean sense of design and functionality!:thumbs_up:thumbs_up:thumbs_up

I am still waiting for my 1st grandchild to start one of my 1st builds. (w/4 daughters I am sure that I will be very busy in the future!)

Post often and enjoy this merry bunch of sawduster's!!:wsmile::wsmile::wsmile:

Take Care.

Hi Mark, and welcome to NCWW! Great looking changing table, I hate to say this, but you can't claim to be a complete beginner AND post a picture like that. I look forward to seeing more of your work and your baby talk in the forums :)

I learned the little bit I know from a old guy who never read a blueprint in his life and built beautiful Homes, he started me off learning framing and I progressed to a finishing carpenter so I figured I could try my hand at making furniture as the skills are similar, bought a decent table saw, a shaper from a sale of old equipment and a piece here and there. Got divorced lost all my furniture. Got Married 6 years later and needed some furniture but did want MDF covered with paper, so I figured Id make my own and I have. I can't find the rest of my pictures, but will take some more. Thank ya'll for the good coments and compliments but I read a lot on the web and watch a fair bit of the Yankee workshop and try to use scrap wood to practice on as much as I can except when its hot outside. All my tools are on wheels and I work outside because I don't have anyway to handle the dust.

My thoughts exactly!

Beautiful job on that changing table. The great thing about that piece is that it can be used long after changing is just a memory.
