Every year Home Depot runs a Christmas sale on this mechanics tool set at $99. I was at my local HD here in Hillsborough and they had three left marked down to $55.

I bought one several years ago for $99 and find it pretty handy to just throw in the car if I have to do some wrenching away from my big tool box.

On line I’m seeing it for $99, which is still a pretty good deal especially when you compare it to the 300 piece version.

Yes, it's $99 online. You'll have to check with your local store to see if they have them at $55. It might be up to individual store managers. It's possible Hillsborough is the only place that has them.

Easier to check online if one has the Internet # 334549390 Model # H280MTS
I have a little blow-mold encased tool set in the pickup that I have taken along on trips in our sedans it include a 3/8 ratchet and Imperial/Metric sockets; a 'vise grip' type pliers, fuses; screwdriver; points file; a continuity tester; and a few other items I can't recall without looking. I would say it is about 12" x 8" x 2" (it fits under the seat easily enough). while I can't recall every instance it 'saved the day' or tow charge - I can recall a time in TN when the Grand AM blew a leak in a unique 1" I.D. little/short/twisted radiator hose only a dealer might carry. I got a motel a block away from an auto repair shop and - with whatever tools there were in that kit and some bit out of the bins behind that (Sunday) closed shop, I got her together and back to Charlotte where a dealer replaced the part and broke the console/cup holder doing it!

"...handy to just throw in the car..."

I don't think that box o sockets is necessary - and a pair of Vise Grip type pliers is.

For most repair jobs, one qualified to take on the task will likely know the four or eight tools necessary and likely find the 280 parts in that set way more than what was needed and way heavier than what was needed.

Life teaches us what's needed and we usually collect the items here and there as required. The 'all in one' case is appealing, but so seldom includes 'everything' needed for the job.

Went to HD today and these were GONE at my location.
I picked up one of these after Martins first post(thanks Martin). The remaining two were under the $250 300 piece version pile. So I am saying “there is a chance”. 😊

Two employees commented on how good a deal it was
