Hello everyone this is Dave. How come nobody goes into that little chat room. I am new here and have been watching it for a while.

Is it like one of those things when you are driving north on I-95 and every single vehicle is going south. Makes you feel like you are going the wrong way. (LOL)

I just don't want to go in and maybe never find my way out8-O :-?

Maybe someday I will see someone in there and I might try going in. If you see me go in and jump right back out in a split second, don't think I'm weird, I will just need to no I will be able to get out if I need to. After that I will go in for a while:)

It's usually very active around lunch time and periodically in the evenings too. Just pop in there sometime even if it's empty and go about reading posts (it opens a seperate browser window) leave your speakers on and it will alert you when someone else enters or posts. There are probably others that will pop in and say hello when they see you in there. If you are online around noon, stop in. There are several of us that are regulars.

I recently found the chat room helpful when DL ask me in there so he could explain drawer construction for me. Great help to me. I haven't been in there again because I don't feel like I have the knowledge that others might discuss there. Might be wrong but maybe a bit intimidating.

I think it is paranoia, not wanting to be the first one in and being there by yourself. At least it is that way for me.

I just sit and "listen" in complete awe when there is really a wood-working discussion going on. When I feel like jumping in I jump - I know that no one will ever ridicule me if I'm way out in left field. That's one of the things I love most about this group. Sometimes it's difficult to follow a particular thread when there are a lot of conversations going on at the same time. If you ask something or say something and it's not responded to it's most likely just got missed in the fray! Don't hesitate to ask again or repeat something. Sometimes we get carried away with gabbing with each other and go way off topic - but that's part of what it's there for too.

The chat room discussion topics often wander from woodworking. This is not an intimidating site like others and people are happy to explain things. There is no appropriate level of experience necessary to participate in a friendly chat.

A sense of humor might be helpful as a lot of good natured ribbing is likely to oocur.

Lunch is usually the most popular, as stated before. If I want to chat with someone, I will normally log into a room in the evening, and see if someone joins in. I usually stand a pretty good chance of getting someone to come in on the weekends.

Lorraine - please don't worry about that; we'll talk to anyone:lol:

First one into the chat room... I remember back a few hundred years... CYO dances at the church... everyone would stand outside, maybe look through the window... and no one wanted to go in because no one was in there.

Just go on in and wait... others will see that someone is in their and join you.

Everyone,

There is no need to wonder about not having the knowledge for wood working discussions. Most of the time we are just killing time. A little of its woodworking, most of its talking about what tool we want to buy next or wish we could buy next, and the rest of it is just about anything. Anything goes.

... and another thing... I like to listen in to the more experienced folks on this site b/c I can learn from them... same reason I read the posts and replies.

Ditto. There are some experts out here and seeing and hearing from them is a big plus.

Downside, is woodguy disease. This site and a couple people in particular:lol: make you think you need a lot more tools and upgraded tools to be able to build anything of quality.

Dave -- I enjoyed the chat last evening with you and Travis and Jeff and others -- it is a nice way to exchange ideas and to share thoughts on various subjects -- My only rules are to avoid politics and religion, becasue they don't belong -- otherwise, we have fun sharing with everyone.
