Can I power a lock mitre bit (1/2" shank) suitably with a 2 1/4 HP router? 4/4 wood is being routed.

I am pondering bit additions.

That should be plenty of power. You can use that bit as a glue joint as well as a lock miter. Takes a little patience to set it up correctly and a very accurate feed of the material being profiled.

Thanks, Dino. I want to expand beyond butt joints and plain mitres for making boxes, and I just like the way that works.

If you are using this for box making and the end of the miter shows, a splined miter using a contrasting wood species may give you a better look
