This Scroll Saw has mixed reviews, but is still considered one of the best 16" scroll saws available under $300.

I have one that was sold as a Tradesman brand by Lowes, and have had lots of trouble with it. It seems to have a "hitch" when running. Hard to explain other than it seems to lurch. Also the speed control has issue's. I've taken it apart and checked the bushings and all drive parts and can find nothing wrong. I think I'm going to take out the motor and speed controller and use on some project. Maybe when Hitachi started marking these they got better!

Jim, Based on your description of the problem it sounds like the issue is with the speed controllers soft-start function. If it is not functioning as designed it would do just as you described and lurch as it goes through the soft-start initialization. I don't know anything about this unit, but I have seen RC plane ESC's do that exact same thing.
