I bought the kit that came with the plunge base for ~100$ years ago.
The motor in this router is very nice but the bases are pretty cheap. However it is not that much worse than the standard Bosch 1617. The motor is at least as nice.

That being said I have moved on. I now use a Dewalt 621 which is a very nice and relatively light weight plunge router (much, much, much nicer than the plunge mechanism on the hitachi but even at it's best price it is at least 50% more expensive).
