Hi,
I just found this site yesterday and thought it looked great. I've been turning off an on for 34 years now. Just got serious 3 years ago. Here is one of my latest projects. Watched a video clip and had to try it. This is the 4th scoop I've made.

Welcome to North Carolina Woodworker Jack! That scoop is awesome!!!! :eusa_clap I would love to see the process you go through to make one. Can you post pics of the process? What is the wood? My guess is Mohagany. Please also go the "Who We Are" forum and post an intro.

Nice, Jack :icon_thum
Look like you would have to be using two lathes at once to do that :icon_scra

Thanks for the compliments everyone. Here is the site that I watched the video clip on this project. When you get to the site click on the AAW menu "second one from the left" and it will open several video clips to watch. You have to scroll down to find the scoop clip. It is done by Soren Berger and should show everyone how to do it. This is the 4th one I've done. I don't think it is that hard. I hope to use it as a project for my high school students next school year. I've taught High School shop for 25 years.

Jack,

That scoop is beautiful. What kind of a finish do you put on them? What other kinds of things to you like to turn?

Nelsone, the handle does add to the fun when it is spinning around.
Ray, I used a watco salad bowl finish on this one. I will put 3 more coats on it and then buff. As far as what I like to turn, what ever I can. I turn and sell crow and turkey calls. I love to turn bowls open and hollow form. I will post a few next week. Here is a picture of a few of my crow calls and a turkey call.
