HF lathe tool rest

One of the things I found out when trying to turn a pen on the HF lathe is the tool rest is really to big :nah:
If you remember I bought some 10mm steel rods, before things got crazy around here, so today I got out my welder and welded a 1/2" piece of steel to one of the rods I havent tried it yet but i hope this will work a little better:eusa_thin

Now I need to find a blacksmith who can bend me a piece of steel into an S shape to make a tool rest for bowls

Nice job, but looking at that face plate, just how big is this pen gonna be?? Or maybe I misunderstood the word "pen. Is it gonna be a big round pen for something like a gerbil, etc??
