I need some ideas.
I was asked to make a donations box, and I dont just want to make an ugly box with a slot cut in the top like everyone seems to do.
I was thinking maybe a 12 x 12 x6 box out of oak trimmed with walnut (what I have on hand).
Maybe trim around the botton with feet then some trim around the top that will allow a semi hidden slot right at the top of the front. with a top that opens.
BUT I SURE WOULD LIKE TO HEAR SOME IDEAS

I think that you have good thoughts already, but I'll throw some fuel on the fire. How about a triangular box with the slot at the peak, and a bottom that slides out to retreve the donations. Square on the bottom, rectangular on the sides, and triangular on the faces. ??????:dontknow: :icon_scra :bduh:

Earl,

Almost sounded like Dave was talking about a pyramid (cool idea). Is this for a religious organization? If so, maybe something symbolic of that organization applied or inlaid (cross, star, crescent...). Could it have something sliding? ... like a panel? Maybe one of the folks in here who lives close to you could donate a piece / scrap of something with a color other than oak or walnut to use as an accent. Bloodwood? Canary wood?

Who are the donations for? That might help us with imagination.

Idea #1 - I think a perfect square box made of bands of contrasting woods (butcher block style) or checkboard style would be pretty neat.

Idea #2 - Make a little piece of furniture. Maybe a box that looks like a little cabinet, or hutch, with mini-legs, handles and such.

Some great ideas flowing here, just keep in mind that people need to be able to tell that it is a donation box and be able to work it easily. If you make the donation method interesting that can also generate extra input. Just think of the things at the mall where a quarter rolls down and goes around and around. Everybody has to show their kid how cool that is..... Maybe some kind of slide mechanism for coins and a pair of rollers cranked to draw in bills.

I am going to keep it simple, as i can.
Clean no symbles or writing.
All the donations are in envlopes. and someone will be with the box, so it shouldnt be too hard
