I have a simple Porter Cable Benchtop Router Table (698). Suits my needs most of the time, but I'd like something more stable and precise than its 2-piece fence and vacuum port.

Can someone recommend a good aftermarket fence for a 20" (ish) table?

Those split fences can be an aggravation. I made one a bit more stable by slapping a piece of pre-finished ply across both halves.

Great idea, Mike. That's pretty much what people are selling material-wise. I just asked my son to pick some up for me - he's a metal fabricator out on a parts run at the moment.

I've always built my own router tables. I have a stand alone with home made lift and a station in the extension table of my table saw at the moment. Both have home made fences that are wooden except for fasteners. I had to build several to get to one I really like but both of my current options are very usable and I really like the stand alone table. A lift is really nice (and not hard to build in yourself for about $100 in parts).
