I am installing some new windows in the house and i am going to finish the trim on the inside with some red oak.
I am looking for suggestions on what would be a good top coat for the wood to protect it from moisture and uv (fading).

I think a poly will probably be your best bet. Klingspore's up on South Blvd. carries General Finishes products and I have had good luck with their products. Woodcraft carries GF too, but Klingsore's is closer. Get one with the UV inhibitors and you should be fine.

I agree that a good poly will help with the moisture protection. the problem will be the sun. There are finishes with UV protection, but nothing is "sun or fade - proof".
