Susan
Hi, from the big town of Cassatt, SC where only one person at a time can fit into the post office.
I've had my own shop for a few years now. It started as a detached garage but I kind of took it over. My husband still has fantasies of one day parking his car in it again. After three years, however, I think reality is finally setting in for him. Thank goodness he's a patient man.
I still consider myself a novice. I like to try new projects that help me increase my skills. I'm about to begin building four large display cases for a friend of mine.
Right now I'm struggling with my Hawk Routershop. I'm beginning to think it's not the right table for me. I just banged up a new lock-miter bit on the stainless steel top so I decided to call it a night.
I was excited to find this site. It's nice to hear from people who live near-by and to talk to fellow woodworkers.
BTW, Mann Tools in Columbia is having two days of free classes Feb 29 to March 1 but you have to register. See their web site. Also, I don't know if this is a good deal to some of you, but I just picked up some kiln-dried, sufaced cypress for 90 cents a board foot at a saw mill near Lake City.

Hey Susan, welcome to the forum! Like Jeremy, I too like your handle (my wife's a Vet). Sounds like you made a great score on that Cypress too.

Can't wait to see pix of your projects.

Thanks, all.

Scott, it's wonderful that your wife is a vet. We take in animals that the animal shelter says are not adoptable and we have 6 cats and 5 dogs. As you can imagine, we spend a lot of time at our vet. I make birdhouses that a local store sells for the animal shelter. They have to euthanize around 10 dogs a day because people won't spay and neuter. BTW, I'm also a vet, but mine is short for "veteran." LOL
Pix are an issue for me because I'm dial-up. I live way out in the boonies so I doubt anything else will be available in my lifetime. I usually just turn pix off while I'm surfing. Plus, I've never really taken pictures of the things I've made. I guess I should start.
That price on cypress is their normal rate. I thought it was a good deal. If anyone needs any, I can give you the number of the mill. Also, an older friend of mine has a set of antique router planes for sale that he used when he was younger. It's pretty neat to see what craftsmen used before we had powered routers. I admire those who work with unpowered equipment, but I'm afraid that will never be me.

I KNOW, I KNOW, I KNOW where Cassett is.

Susan -

You are probably not old enough to remember, but I used to go into the general store on US1 in downtown Cassett in the '40s. It's not even there anymore. We went into Camden once a week on Saturdays (for weekly shopping and a stop at the freezer plant) and if anything was needed mid-week we went into Cassett. I still have family around that area, the Campbell's. And I guess you know, you're right up the road from Eaglesc on this board. Welcome to the board.

Susan,

Welcome to the forum! :eusa_clap The LOML owns her own pet sitting business and has tought me more than I ever thought I knew about animals. We have two dogs and three cats and believe me, it is challenging at times.

I can't wait to see some of your work!

Welcome, Susan. My mother was raised in Cassatt. She went to Antioch High School - 8 students. Their yearbook was literally 'cut & paste'. We still have relatives living in Camden, B'ville, Lucknow, McGeetown (I'm showing off now). The family moved to CLT(Mint Hill) when I was 3, but we still get down that way regularly, so don't feel too isolated. Hope to see some pics soon.

Gotcha6 and Susan -

Trivia question about the area: Where is Alligator Township, SC? My Mom was born there.

Answer to come later.

That would be the township between McBee and Jefferson, would it not? The have a water tower down there with an alligator painted on it at the Bethune shortcut from Jefferson on 151.

George, I got another trivia question for you: The 'longest' bridge in the world is located in this area. Where is it?

George, I got another trivia question for you: The 'longest' bridge in the world is located in this area. Where is it?

Don't think I can answer that one, except that many years ago in another lifetime (probably mid to late '40s) I went to a family reunion somewhere down there with my grandparents and we drove over a swamp on an elevated (5'-6' over the water) roadway for what seemed like 10-15 miles. Maybe could be classified as a bridge. But still couldn't tell you which road or where it led.
