Mark
I'm an avid DIYer and have dabbled in making simple projects such as mobile office jet printer stands and entertainment center modifications. Within the past 6 months I have jumped head first in getting a shop setup. My projects have mostly been shop projects such as a fliptop stand for drum sander and spindle sander, miter saw station with folding wings, drill press stand and planer/jointer table. I'm really getting into it and of course my girlfriend wants me to make cutting boards for Christmas presents.

Welcome to the forum, Mark. Always remember the golden rule of woodworking, when a significant other asks for a project, you get new tools!
Well, at least that's always the best time to sneak them in under the radar.

Honey "I thought you were going to install that oak wainscoting today?"
Me "Yeah I was but I was sure you don't want it installed rough sawn like that."
Honey "Well how do you fix something like that and make it smooth?"
Me "Well I was looking at planers this afternoon and ...."
