Hey everyone! I’m Keith. I’ve been learning wood working for a few years….My main focus has been trying to teach myself joinery and finish techniques with a mix of Japanese hand tools, European timber framing hand tools and whatever antique tools I find at flea markets. I’ve made several things, mostly piles of shavings and chips. Hoping to switch gears from skill building to finished creations and thought now would be a good time to dive into the community!

Welcome...not many of us down here on the flatlands. I'm just down the road in Ayden. I don't buy tools like I used to but still like to peruse my old haunts from time to time. Let me know if you need anything.

Appreciate it, This is great! I was actually hoping someone would be able to point me towards some good local resources. Right now I’m trying to find a close by saw mill or just a good place for live edge slabs, hardwood boards, native local wood, etc.

I have a project I’m starting that requires live edge hardwood native to coastal NC and haven’t found where I’d be able to acquire that yet. Open to any recommendations!

Welcome Keith
I'm a stones throw east of you in Chocowinity. We're lucky to have two sources not too far from us where we can buy almost anything you might need. First, Custom Furniture & Fabrication | Oak City Customs has quality hardwoods and live edge slabs. They are in Zebulon, a little more than an hour from you. For me, it's an hour and a half, but worth the trip. I buy all the wood for my instruments from them. Second, World Panel Products in Windsor, NC (about 45 minutes north of me) has anything you might need when it comes to plywood. No cheap stuff, but quality materials. Give them a call, they're both very accommodating and easy to work with.
Let me know if I can help you with something.

hi Keith, give me a call and we'll find a time to show you around the North Carolina Furniture School in Farmville. We have a sawmill and can custom cut stock for you. Right now, we are working on a huge timber frame pergola for a customer - sounds like it would be right up your alley!

Amazing! I Really appreciate it. Will definitely be taking a few trips to scout out these spots over the summer.
