Greetings All,
I was very happy to find this site just for us NC woodworkers. Some of the national/international woodworking sites are pretty good, but we probably have more in common here in the state (versus folks far-far-away). I've been hooked on woodworking since jr. high school and have been woodworking ever since then, although it was somewhat limited in some of my "former lives". I have a pretty decent shop now and try to get as much shop time as I can. I've been primarily building mission style furniture for about the past 10 years and have gone so far as to learn some of the original mission style "tricks" and methods like veneering and fuming. I digress from the "classic" oak mission style a lot, and use a lot of walnut and some other of my own twists. I probably need to post some pictures of my work, but I've been pretty derelict in taking pictures of my projects and only have pictures of a few projects. My other passion is collecting old woodworking tools. I've mostly concentrated on wood planes but have studied/collected about all of the old woodworking tools. In the past several years, my main collecting focus has been on Marsh & Rockford metallic planes. Anyway, I look forward to participating in the group and hope I can contribute.

This site is made up of folks with varying levels of experience and disciplines. I would love to see some of your work. I really like the mission furniture style. Welcome aboard, good to see another Westerner. I'm in Horse Shoe and McRabbet is in Hendersonville. There are a few others out here as well. I would love to see some of your work and enjoy mission style furniture as well. I have yet to get a picture to my gallery but our bed is a mission style in natural cherry. In total, there were over 200 mortise and tennon joints. Talk about a glue up headache..... at any rate jump in, share advice and have some fun.

It's one thing I value of this web site, you can actually meet the people here! That and there are lots of very talented people. Be sure you put your dot on the member map, you can find that by clicking here . Sounds like you've carved out a challenging niche with your Mission furniture; we'd all love to see some of your projects. Lots of good people here and in my 5 weeks, I've seen no back-stabbing like that seen on some of the national sites -- NCWW.net specializes in good info shared among good people. Also look forward to hear more about your old tools.

Hello Dave, Ask & ye shall receive. I posted some pictures of a closet organizer and my grandson's walnut dresser that I made. These are about the only project pictures I have, and I probably need to get busy with the digital camera. There's several pieces that still live here that the group might enjoy. Latest project is a burl maple picture frame with a picture of the grandbabies for my parents for Christmas. I just got it back from the framer yesterday having the picture mounted. I'll try to shot a picture and add it.

Hello Steve, Yes, good to see another Westerner. I know some folks in Horse Shoe. I posted pictures of some of my work and would be pleased for you to take a look. 200 M&T, my, my..... More like a glue-up nightmare. Hide glue? I've had similar glue-up nightmares, some ending in catastrophy because I'm so slow.

Thanks Clay, I think I'm really going to enjoy this, everyone is really nice. No attitudes or ego's, just regular folks getting together with a common interest. I've been somewhat "unhappy" with the national websites because people were so far way and their "take" on things is different from our ways. I added my bubble to the map. No pictures, didn't happen... That hurts and left a scar. I have the camea here now and wiill get busy.

Welcome! We're glad you're joining us and we have another western NCer. DH and I are in Forest City. I love the Mission style furniture and using woods other than oak. I love the pictures in your album. I think we'll learn a lot from you. Please jump in whenever the mood strikes. We are an easy going group.

Just a plug for those of us who do scroll saw work and pen turning - if you have any scrap lumber that we could use please throw it in a box and let me (or others who will pipe in on this subject) know. Someone will get up that way (it may take us a little while but we will either pick it up or let you know we can't get there). We can put lumber that may have been doomed to the fireplace, or worse - to the dump to good use - and are always looking for free lumber. I recently raided SteveD's scaps and have been putting that wood to good use!

Thanks John, Here in Haywood county we have several sawmills. Powells is a big commercial outfit and they have oodles of wood. I don't believe they have a kiln so all of it is green or air dried. My buddy has a banmill and he saws all of my stuff. He doesn't keep much of an inventory and you just have to stay in touch with him as to what he has, or he will look for anything you want. I got several 100 feet of nice walnut from him a while back just because I happened to be driving by and saw him sawing and stopped. There's another sawmill up the river in the Bethel community that also has lumber and I've heard good thigns about them but have never done business with them. I've heard of another guy over in Buncombe Co. in the Arden community that has a new ban-mill setup AND a kiln! I haven't checked into it yet, but will, because I have oodles of wood ready for the kiln.

Thanks for the compliments on the pictures. I look forward to learning from all of you too. My rule on scrap wood is that there is no such thing as scrap wood. I keep all of the little pieces and jiblets, especially the exotics, unless it's absolutely junky and worthless (cracked to smitherines, etc) I'd be glad to share some of these.

Just checked your pics. Wow... I love that chest! That is certainly something to last several several generations. Beautiful
