Just wanted to briefly introduce myself and say how glad I am to find this excellent site for NC woodowrkers. :)

My name is Joel and I am originally from Bear Creek, NC :icon_thum in Eastern NC but I've lived all across North Carolina calling Swansboro, Jacksonville, Raleigh, Clayton, and Linville home at one time or another.

I've been making sawdust for about 5 years or so now starting with simple clocks as Christmas presents and working my way up to building guitars. About two years ago I patented my original design for a musical instrument body design :eusa_danc and I hope to market my design one day.

My shop is a converted 10X12 shed in the backyard which I've optimized for luthier work (luckily the tools required are mostly small :-D) I don't have a lot of experience or tools but I'm glad to share any of what I've gained with others if it will help you complete your projects.

Because we all know there is nothing worse than a half-finished woodworking project! :rolf:

Look forward to getting to know you good folks !

Welcome Joel, thanks for the intro. I love your avatar. Animal is my favorite Muppet. I would also really love to see some pictures of your work. I consider Luthiers to be one of the finest forms of the craft. Not only are wooden instruments beautiful, they have a sound that can't be reproduced in any other material, and is very unique from instrument to instrument. So not only does a Luthier need to be a fine woodworker he also needs to be a musician too.
See you around!!!
Dave:)

Hi Joel,

Welcome to the web site.

Back in the 60s and 70s, I fancied myself a guitarist ... but we all did back then. I'm really happy I found woodworking because I was a fairly lousy musician.

Please do get a photo album on the site here. I'd love to see some of your work.

Ray

Welcome Joel, to the best woodworking site around!

Look forward to your input about luthier work, not a guitarist myself, but I have a brother who writes and performs guitar, and a 7 y.o. son who fancies himself to be a master guitarist.
