Thanks to D L for steering me to the introductory forum!
I'm retired (Community College Media Specialist & Internet Instructor) In past years I did 'the Craft Show Circuit' (or at least part of it!) showing Scrollsawn Christmas ornaments and decorative wood items. I have a small (very small) shop out back where I spend many hours making sawdust (and kindling wood!!)
My Dad was a Carpenter in Western North Carolina, and a gunsmith (antique firearms), and jewelry maker..actually a real-life Jack-of-all-trades... I got my love of wood from him, I suppose.
After High School in Swannanoa, North Carolina, I went to Western Carolina University, initially as an Industrial Arts major, then switched (very late in my college career!!) to Educational Media.
I have always had some kind of woodworking going on...either framing/finishing or craft work. After a less than satisfactory encounter with a local remodeler (we had to get him back to remove and re-do that which he had done wrong and failed inspection), my wife and I just finished did the job ourselves. This involved tearing out interior sheetrock, exterior siding and sheathing, enlarging the door opening, installing new studs/header and installing a new Anderson Oak slider. (We actually prefer doing-it-ourselves.) The building inspector passed OUR work with no exceptions.
Looking forward to getting to know the membership, and hopefully meeting some and sharing ideas and knowledge.
Richard
