Would anybody know of where I might buy project quantities of hardwood in northwest NC? I am in Watauga county and am most familiar with the Hickory/Lenoir area. I can get to the Asheville area or further if I have to.

Nothing in the works right now, would just like to know where to go when something comes up. I have a little bit of 8/4 walnut which was kiln-dried way back in the last century (about 35 years ago) and very little else to draw from.

Check under the forum 'Sell Wood'. Couple of posters here that sell wood in that area.

In the immediate area, I've used Catawba Hardwoods. They're located just north of the bridge on Hwy 321 - on the left side of the road as you leave Hickory. I've used them for my plywood. They have nice S4S hardwoods as well, but the prices are best if you want to buy 100+ bf.

There are others in the area as well, of course. There are two in this area that I recently learned about, and plan to make a trip to. Two are members of this very forum: Eric from Innovative Wood Products is near Asheville, and Kyle has a sawmill near Lincolnton. Here are the links:

Hope this helps...

Wall Lumber Company in Mayodan, NC has a huge warehouse full of a wide range of domestic and exotic hardwoods. It's a haul from Watauga County, but well worth the drive. They will also package many types of wood for delivery via UPS. Here's a link to their web site

Another vote for Catawba Hardwoods. They usually treat you pretty good. I buy nearly all my domestic woods and plywoods from them thesed days.

Thanks,

John

I have been getting wood from Gennett Lumber in Asheville.... 284 Lyman St. - (828)253-3626..I have been getting Cypress from them for outdoor furniture, and am happy with them. Steve Wall is cheaper, $2.40 bf vs $2.75 what I pay here, but Wall is north of Greensboror. Check it out. They have a decent selection but not as good as Steve Wall

FYI - Innovative Wood Products is no more. He sold his mill and is sawing up the last of his logs for a client in FL. He gave me a great deal on the last of his Cherry about three weeks ago.
