Hello there. My name is Ron and I just found your site and am excited to now be a part of this group. I have worked with wood most of my life as a helper to my Dad (83 and still builds furniture in southwest PA). Just remarried nearly 5 years ago and am building my 2 car garage shop from nothing. I have a Jet 52" table saw with the sliding mitre table and a Dewalt crosscut saw and a few hand held power tools, but that's about it so far. I have been learning a lot by working on home projects and projects for my church.

Now I am refinishing some cedar outdoor furniture for a friend who initially stained them with frozen and rethawed cedar stain. It never cured properly. I have sanded them and am now ready to apply a finish, but not sure what I should use. They will be used in a mountain retreat near Little Switzlerland.

Any suggestions?

Thanks and I hope to learn a lot from you folks.

Welcome!! For your Cedar chair project I would recommend a penetrating oil finish. It is easily renewed, won't chip or peal like most polys and spar urathanes. You might have to use it once a year, but the application is easy. This company makes great products http://www.penofin.com/
